Laboratory testing is essential to forming a correct diagnosis of most problems. Information gained from this testing, when considered with facts known from the history and physical examination, allow us to develop reasonable assurance of the correctness of the tentative diagnosis and the appropriateness of the treatment plan. Blood, urine, feces, spinal fluid, tissue cells and abnormally accumulated fluids are all subject to such testing. In many cases we may perform the tests required here in our in-house laboratory. In others, we submit appropriate samples to a commercial laboratory for analysis by specialists in the fields of hematology, clinical pathology, cytology, microbiology, pathology and internal medicine.
