Literally, “orthopedic” is Latin for “to straighten the child”, and deals with conditions of the bones, joints and soft tissues involved in locomotion. Orthopedic care includes evaluation (observation, palpation), correlation of findings with imaging studies, consultation with appropriate specialists, application of appliances or bandaging techniques and corrective or palliative surgery.
